Cord Domains: your links on your subdomain
With Cord Domains, the links your client receives no longer start with cordhq.app and use a subdomain of your company instead, such as quotes.yourcompany.com. Your website and your email don’t change: Cord only uses the address you assign to it.
Requirements
- The Professional plan or higher, outside the test environment.
- The Settings permission in your role.
- An unused subdomain of a domain you already own. The root domain (
yourcompany.com) is not accepted. - Access to the panel where you manage your DNS, or to the person who manages it.
Connect your domain
- Open Settings › Brand appearance › Cord Domains, enter the subdomain and click Save domain.
- Add the TXT record Cord shows you to your DNS. Its name starts with
_cord.. - Once Cord confirms the TXT, add the CNAME record with the value
cname.cordhq.app. If your panel offers a proxy, such as Cloudflare’s orange cloud, set it to DNS only. - Cord issues the HTTPS certificate for you. When it’s done, the status reads Active.
While the screen is open, Cord checks your DNS on its own and each record shows what it found. Even if you close it, Cord keeps checking and emails you when the domain is active or if records are missing. If someone else manages your DNS, click Send them the instructions: they get a link with the records that expires in 7 days and gives no access to your account.
Keep both records in your DNS after the domain is active: Cord checks them again every day.
What changes once it’s active
- New links to your quotes, invoices and client portal use your subdomain, including the ones Cord sends on your behalf.
- So do the pages opened from collection emails: accepting a payment plan, opting out of emails and turning off automatic payments.
- Your domain only opens your clients’ links. It can’t be used to enter the app, Settings or another organization’s links.
- If you open the portal from the client’s profile, it opens in Cord, with your session.
If the domain stops working
If you remove a record, Cord waits 15 minutes before treating the domain as disconnected and emails you as soon as that happens. In the meantime, your new links go out with cordhq.app, and the ones your clients already have take them to the same page on cordhq.app, as long as the CNAME stays in your DNS. When the domain works again, Cord lets you know.
If you downgrade, links with your domain also lead to cordhq.app. Nothing is deleted: you get your domain back when you return to an eligible plan.
Common issues
- The record says “Different value”. Replace it with the value Cord shows, without quotes.
- The record says “Duplicated name”. Your panel added the domain to the name. In Name, enter only the short part, for example
_cord.quotes. - The CNAME says “Behind the proxy”. Switch it to DNS only (grey cloud) in Cloudflare.
- It stays at “Preparing HTTPS” and a CAA record shows up that blocks the certificate. Add the CAA record Cord shows, with the value
0 issue "letsencrypt.org", without deleting the ones you already have. - “This address is already assigned or needs a review.” Contact us. Don’t delete its configuration to try connecting it again.
